Facility & Energy Management is a fast-growing department of 80+ engineers building software that helps organizations optimize energy consumption, reduce costs, and run smarter, more sustainable facilities. Our product portfolio spans IoT sensor integration, AI-driven analytics, and operational management tools used by customers across Scandinavia and Europe every day.
We operate across two geographies, Mangaluru and Scandinavia, working as one close-knit team across time zones. Our work sits at the intersection of sustainability, enterprise software, and emerging technology, making us one of EG's most strategically important and technically exciting departments.
As a Manager, you will oversee 2-3 product teams totaling 20-25 engineers, serving as the daily people leader, technical advisor, and delivery bridge between Mangaluru and our Scandinavian colleagues.
Your role, key Responsibilities:
Supports the Senior Manager for F&EMS in fostering closer leadership proximity for engineers across the department.
Balances people management responsibilities with hands-on operational contributions, typically spending approximately 30% of their time on leadership and management activities, while dedicating the remaining 70% to delivering the same core work as the team.
Assesses and resolves complex software development challenges, making sound and confident decisions aligned with R&D priorities.
Contributes to team strategy and alignment with overall R&D goals, translating departmental plans into operational goals and priorities.
The job holder oversees a team of engineers and a business area with added complexity and is responsible for day-to-day operations and people management.
The job holder is expected to have prior team management experience and will be responsible for the day-to-day leadership, development, and performance of the team, with guidance and support from the reporting Manager.
Responsible for translating departmental objectives into operational priorities, driving execution, and addressing challenges while collaborating closely with the reporting Manager and aligning with the strategic direction set by senior leadership.
Your workday, your tasks and mandatory skill set:
Leading and managing 20–25 engineers across 2–3 product/feature teams — setting direction, removing blockers, and keeping teams motivated and focused.
Collaborating daily with Product Owners to ensure epics and stories are well-understood, refined, and ready for implementation.
Supporting teams in translating business requirements into well-designed technical solutions.
Running regular 1:1s, performance conversations, and growth planning sessions with team members.
Partnering with the Senior Manager on capacity planning, team structure, and workforce planning to scale teams effectively.
Taking an active role in recruiting, screening candidates, conducting interviews, and onboarding new hires into the team culture.
Acting as the primary liaison between Mangalore engineering teams and Scandinavian product/business stakeholders, ensuring alignment across time zones.
Tracking and improving team health metrics: delivery predictability, velocity, quality, and team engagement.
Championing engineering best practices, including code quality, DevOps culture, CI/CD, and continuous improvement across all teams you manage.
You are the ideal candidate if
You are an experienced engineering leader who combines strong people management instincts with a solid technical foundation. You understand what it takes to run distributed, cross-cultural teams at scale, and you know how to create conditions where engineers do their best work.
Mandatory Skills:
Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Information Science, or a related field.
10+ years of overall experience in software development, with at least 2-3 years in a people management or team lead role.
Demonstrated ability to manage and develop large teams (15+ members) across multiple squads or product lines.
Proven experience working in cross-cultural, distributed engineering environments, ideally involving European stakeholders.
Exceptional communication skills: able to represent team needs upward and translate business priorities downward clearly.
Knowledge of Scrum/Kanban Agile delivery processes and the ability to use metrics to drive team discussions and continuous improvement.
Strong decision-making and problem-solving skills with a data-informed approach to team performance.
Strong technical background from any of these areas: .Net development, Mobile App Development (Android/ IOS), Frontend Development (Angular/Blazor)
Familiarity with AI-assisted development and productivity tools (e.g., Claude, GitHub Copilot, or similar LLM-based tools) to drive engineering efficiency and team-wide AI adoption.
Good to have Skills:
Experience with Agile/Scrum delivery at scale (multiple teams, SAFe, or similar frameworks).
Familiarity with microservices, architecture and cloud platforms (Azure preferred).
Interest in learning Scandinavian or European ways of working and culture.
